The World Cup random road trip to Germany
The World Cup road trip to Germany begins. A work friend- Bob, very generously invited us to a German city where the England/ Portugal game was being played last saturday. To our surprise Bob handed over his car keys and told us we could have his car for the weekend. I had all intention of driving there and back (despite having to drive on the other side of the road) but when I discovered the car was a manual Mazzy and I nominated Zoe as our weekend driver- probably for the best. Zoz turned out to be a natural behind the wheel despite a few near death experiences.
We followed Bob in a separate car to Germany and then didn't see him again till Sunday. So us 3 Australian girls parked the car and and joined the masses to watch the England v Portugal game. The atmosphere during the game was great! When England lost it was a different story- drunks started swinging chairs at each other, and blood was shed. Never the less, we kept drinking and then started to watch the Brazil v Italy match.
We met these really nice German guys who showed us around town after the Brazil v Italy match but we decided to call it a night and head back to our 5 star accommodation- a dusty car park, were Zoe, Maz and I prepared the VW, 2 door hatch for bed. After 2 hours sleep the sun was up, and Zoe and Maz decide to go find some breakfast whilst I kept sleeping. While they were gone, these English supporters moved these 10 kg barricade stones and barricades around our car- boxing the car completely in. Then decorated it with English flags. It must have taken them a good 15 mins, and they must have been so quiet not to wake me- but I did wake up just as they had finished- was very funny! I had to wait till Maz and Zoe returned until I could get out of the car. The look on their faces was priceless.
